RICHMOND, Va. — Ricky Oropesa knocked in four runs for the Richmond Flying Squirrels Wednesday night during a 5-1 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs.

The loss extended the Sea Dogs’ losing streak to six. The final game of the three-game series is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Oropesa got the Squirrels going in the bottom of first with a ground ball single to right that scored two after Portland starter Luis Diaz surrendered hits to Kelby Timlinson, Mac Williamson and Mitch Delfino to load the bases. After the two runs scored, Diaz gave up a walk to Angel Villalona to load the bases once again. The next batter Engel Beltre popped out to third baseman Oscar Tejeda. Diaz struck out Daniel Carbonell to escape the inning.

Diaz gave up a single, hit a batter and walked one loading the bases for Oropesa in the fifth. Oropesa lined to right field bringing home two more runs for a 4-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs scored their run in the sixth inning. Jantzen Witte led off the inning with a double and later scored on a groundout by Tejeda.

Richmond added a run in the seventh on Williamson’s RBI single.

Diaz (0-5) was replaced after five innings. He finished with six hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Richmond starter Joe Biagini (5-3) struck out five, walked none and gave up six hits through seven innings.
