Mere Creek to host Youth Camp

BRUNSWICK — Head PGA professional Kevin Joseph and assistant Henry Fall are scheduled to host a Junior Golf Camp on July 13-14 beginning each day at 9:30 a.m.

“Our mission for the Junior Golf Camp is to provide a fun, positive environment so the young golfers have a place to learn and improve their skills, through instruction, practice and a variety of health conscious games and activities,” said Joseph. “We are committed to growing Junior golf in the Brunswick area by bringing excitement to the kids and their overall enjoyment of the game.”

The camp is for players 8-16 and the cost is $150 per student. The camp has a maximum participation of 40 students with a student/teacher ratio of 5-to-1.

It is preferred that players bring their own clubs, but Mere Creek can supply clubs if given advance notice.

Activities will be a little different this year, with a more fun approach that will be more appealing. Instruction will be provided for all attendees, along with a series of golf-related games, team competitions and exercises that will better engage the participants. There will be a strong focus on the fundamentals and knowledge of the game. Camp emphasis will center around putting, chipping, pitching, bunker and full swing, along with posture, grip, swing and alignment. Also, general knowledge of the rules, etiquette, golf course and history of the game will be taught.

“And, basically, more fun for the kids, means more kids playing outside of the camp, that is our hope,” said Joseph.

Lunch and snacks will be provided. There will also be a focus put on healthy food and drinks this year to coincide with camp initiative and activities.

Joseph is also looking for several camp counselors to help out, possibly high school upperclassmen or college students in need of community service hours, which will account to 10 hours.
