BRUNSWICK — As summer approaches, the Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department has opportunities for youngsters to hit the field and the track.
“Kids on the Field” is for grades K-2 and is an instructional coed baseball/softball league. The first three nights are used for the introduction of practice fundamental skills, with the group rotating between five stations. Players will work on throwing, catching, running the bases, defense and batting.
By the fourth night, participants will be playing the game.
This camp will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning this upcoming Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Edward Field. The program is for seven nights, ending on July 6.
The cost is $40 for Brunswick residents, $53 for non-residents, and volunteers are needed.
Also, “Youth Track Camp” will be held for ages 5-14, with practices held at Brunswick High School.
Ages 5-10 will practice from 5-6 p.m., while ages 11- 14 participate from 6-7 p.m. There will be meets in Poland (July 23) and Edward Little High School (July 2 and July 23) in Auburn and at Topsham (July 9), with a home meet slated for June 25.
Heather Green is the coach, and the cost is $75 for residents, $95 for non residents.
The first practice is set for Monday.
