RICHMOND, Va. — The Portland Sea Dogs (24-36) erased an early 4-0 deficit and defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels (30-27), 5-4, on Thursday night at the Diamond. Portland’s pitchers closed out the game with 7 2/3 hitless innings.
The Dogs snapped a six-game losing streak and ended Richmond’s six-game win streak.
Portland scored three runs to take the lead for good in the eighth. Luis Martinez and Jonathan Roof had RBI singles to tie the game. The game-winning RBI came on Reed Gragnani’s sac-fly to left field. Gragnani is a Richmond, Virginia native and finished the night 2-for-3.
Portland scored on five of six walks issued by Richmond pitchers.
Robby Scott retired all four batters with two strikeouts to earn the win. Madison Younginer capped off the perfect night for the bullpen, working 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts to earn his first Double-A save.
Jose Casilla took the loss for the Flying Squirrels, giving up one run in just a 1/3 of an inning.
Portland starter Mike Augliera didn’t allow a hit after the second, finishing with a no deicsion, giving up five hits and four runs over six innings.
