As we approach graduation for the seniors at BHS, I would like to express my gratitude to all the teachers and staff at BHS who have helped my son to graduate with honors from the high school.

We came here from a foreign country last year where the school system was not good. English was my son’s third language. He had very little experience with academic English. Beginning with Janice Smith and Sharon Harvey in 11th grade, along with Mary Moore, his teachers helped him continuously to improve his English and become a better student. Ms. Smith gave him the possibility of rewriting his junior year paper five times. That meant she had to read and correct it five times. Mr. Hutchinson teased him into working harder.

In his senior year, again his teachers pushed him to do well. He was allowed into the AP English course with Ms. Russell. Mr. Blake and Mr. Hanson went out of their way to help him in their respective courses, with Mr. Hanson giving his personal time to tutor my son. And I was surprised that Mr. Hart would be willing to give up his Sunday afternoons in April to do review sessions for his AP History students. Ms. Tuttle coaxed my son to work hard in physical education. Mr. Wilson made my son realize the value of community service and teaches his students what inequality means in society. I think his course should be a requirement for all the students at the high school.

I extend a heartfelt thank you to all of my son’s teachers. He is a better person for having attended Brunswick High School.
