SACO — Ward 3 Councilor Bette Brunswick has resigned, as she is moving to Ward 4.
Brunswick wrote a letter to city councilors and Mayor Don Pilon on June 16, stating that she was resigning as of that day.
“Although I wish that the timing of my move could have been closer to the actual end of my term, my husband and I realized that now gives the best opportunity for us to take steps toward securing a more financially sound retirement and this move helps us to achieve that end,” wrote Brunswick.
Brunswick said in the letter that she’s enjoyed her service on the council, and hopes that she may serve on the council again some day. She said she will remain active with Saco Main Street and Saco Citizens for Sensible Government.
Brunswick was elected to the City Council in November 2013 to a two-year term.
According to city charter, if a City Council position is vacated less than one year before the next municipal election, the remaining members of the council may within 30 days of the vacancy appoint someone to fill the rest of the term. If the council fails to appoint a replacement within 30 days, the mayor shall appoint a replacement within 10 days after the 30-day period.
