PORTLAND ( AP) — Maine’s largest city is releasing a public bid that offers up rooftops in the city for projects that generate solar-powered electricity.

Portland city officials say several facilities around the city are potential sites for solar power systems. They include the Portland International Jetport, a library storage facility, two schools and a fire station.

The city says it hopes proposals will be close to cost-neutral. City officials anticipate buying power generated from the selected providers at about market price. Portland has some small-scale solar installations for education purposes on school buildings around the city.

The city is accepting proposals until 3 p.m. on Aug. 6. The city is holding mandatory pre- proposal site visits on July 16.
