Fewer houses sold in York County in the period from March to May this year over the same period last year. But at least half of them sold for more money, according to the Maine Association of Realtors, or MAR, which regularly reports on statewide sales of existing homes.
According to MAR, 584 homes in York County sold from March 1 through May 31 this year, down 4.26 percent from the previous year, when 620 homes sold during the same period.
Despite the drop in sales, the median price for homes in York County however, was up 6.54 percent to $220,000 from $206,500 during the same period in 2014.
Cumberland County saw the greatest increase in existing home sales during the period, with 927 existing homes sold, versus 788 during the same time last year, an increase of 17.64 percent. Prices increased slightly by 1.7 percent to $239,000 from $234,000.
Home values continue to rise in most of Maine’s counties, further illustrating a more stable real estate environment across the state, the real estate association said in a news release. In May this year, 1,335 single-family existing homes changed hands, leading to a 2.53 percent increase in sales overall. The median sales price for those homes reached $185,000, an 8.86 percent increase.
In northern Maine, Washington County sold one more house from March to May this year than they did in 2014, though the median value was up 14.1 percent, from $85,000 to $97,000.
As for the median sales price, existing homes sales in Lincoln County dipped the most ”“ off a hefty 22.5 percent, from $180,000 in 2014 to $165,500 this year, MAR reports.
