School Administrative District 75 will take another shot Thursday at a policy addressing charter school student participation in extracurricular actives within the district.

The Policy Committee will meet at 5 p.m. at Mt. Ararat High School in room 200 before the start of the regular school board meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The committee revised a draft policy June 18 that states the would have the power to approve or deny applications to participate in an extracurricular activity, and “may withhold approval only if the school does not have the capacity to provide the student with the opportunity to participate in the extracurricular activity.”

The policy states the school district does not have the capacity “when all available slots or positions for the activity are taken by regularly enrolled students. A student enrolled at MSAD No. 75 schools will not be denied the opportunity to participate in favor of a student enrolled in a charter school.”

Committee members discussed how the policy should address how the district determines whether there are enough slots for charter school students to try out for an activity, and at what point in the process would charter school students try out for a sport.

On Thursday, the committee will consider any additional changes to the policy, and will also hear a report from Todd Sampson, the athletic director for SAD 75, regarding rule changes from the Maine Principals Association.

The school board will then consider a first reading of the policy.

Also on Thursday:

. School board members are expected to consider adopting a new elementary math program recommended by the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Committee.

. The board will hear a presentation from Bowdoinham Community School Principal Chris Lajoie on the year-end report of the Response to Intervention Committee.
