Dr. Roger Inhorn, the director of oncology and hematology at Mercy Hospital, has received a special Founder’s Award from the Cancer Community Center in South Portland.
This award is given whenever the board of trustees feels someone has upheld the values of the center’s founder, Jane Staley, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1994.
The award has been presented only four times in the organization’s 17-year history, but this year the trustees voted unanimously to recognize Inhorn, who has been chairman of the advisory board for the past 10 years.
“Dr. Inhorn has effectively led this group to be strong advocates for the center and its important role in the cancer experience for patients, their families and caregivers,” a press release issued by the Cancer Community Center stated.
