SACO — The city is looking for candidates to carry out the rest of the term for the Ward 3 City Council seat.

Former Ward 3 City Councilor Bette Brunswick resigned on June 16, stating in a letter to the Mayor and the City Council she had sold her house and was moving to Ward 4.

“Although I wish that the timing of my move could have been closer to the actual end of my term, my husband and I realized that now gives the best opportunity for us to take steps toward securing a more financially sound retirement and this move helps us to achieve that end,” wrote Brunswick.

Ward 3 residents interested in filling the vacancy should submit a letter of interest and a resume to the City Administrator’s office at City Hall. Applications will be accepted through July 2 at noon, according to a statement on the city’s website. The term of office will be from appointment in July through Nov. 3, according to the statement.

According to city charter, if a City Council position is vacated less than one year before the next municipal election, the remaining members of the council may within 30 days of the vacancy appoint someone to fill the rest of the term. If the council fails to appoint a replacement within 30 days, the mayor shall appoint a replacement within 10 days after the 30-day period.
