ARUNDEL — On Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., York County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home in Arundel on a report that a dog had been stabbed.
Accor-ding to the sheriff’s office, Jacob Belanger, 23, of 714 Alfred Road, killed his mother’s dog.
Belanger lived at the residence with his mother and grandmother and left the area after stabbing his mother’s 4-year-old chocolate Labrador named Annabel to death, according to a new release from the sheriff’s office.
Belanger was not at the residence when deputies arrived, but he returned home while deputies were conducting their preliminary investigation, according to the release.
Belanger was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a Class C felony.
According to the sheriff’s office, a large number of dogs live in the Belanger household and surrounding property.
Belanger’s mother said her son was upset with the number of dogs in the house and he was especially upset with the “large” dogs, according to the release. She said before her son left for work Tuesday, he threatened to kill the dogs if they were still around when he returned home, according to the sheriff’s office.
Belanger is being held at the York County jail with a bail of $1000. He was to be video arraigned Wednesday at 1 p.m.
