The Saltwater Artists cooperative gallery, located at 3056 Bristol Road, is pleased to showcase four member photographers whose work has found an appreciative audience in Maine’s local galleries and throughout the country.

Just back from several weeks’ work in Yellowstone National Park, the awardwinning photographer, Sandy Flint of Pemaquid, looks forward to his time on Eastern Egg Rock working with Audubon’s Project Puffin, photographing specific birds to document their return to Eastern Egg Rock. “Participation in this project has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done”, said Flint. His photographs in this current show include work from Eastern Egg Rock as well as shore birds and wildlife, offering the visitor a journey throughout the state of Maine and beyond.

Ardy Greatorex of Waldoboro’s work both in black and white as well as color photography continues to delight return visitors to Saltwater as her work evolves, focusing on composition, light and mood. Her prints are either a realistic representation of the original or directed into a composite or even an abstract presentation.

New to Saltwater this season, Mary Johnston from Jefferson brings a love and appreciation of nature and her work captures ”that unforgettable instance” of being at the right place at the right time. Spending much time in the field, Johnston’s images offer Maine’s iconic lighthouses and wildlife, sharing with the viewer the peace and beauty of both its shoreline and forests, at sunset, daybreak and all moments in between.

A lifelong resident of Maine, Dave Higgins of Newcastle had been working in both black and white as well as color photography, and in 2000, he began to explore the concept of only using a digital format, enjoying the complex relationships of color, composition and methods that blurred the edges of classical photography. As Dave said, “it is often more important what you take out of an image than what you leave in.” Working digitally, from a photographic base, Dave uses a complex layer of digital brush work, screens, patterns and various software to create this unique artwork exhibited and published throughout Maine and New England.

The photography show runs through July 7th and examples of the work can be seen on-line at www.saltwaterartists.com and in Saltwater’s seven-room gallery showcasing both their work and the twenty-two awardwinning Maine artists whose fine art and crafts offerings are all new for the 2015 season.
