RICHMOND — Richmond Police arrested a Belfast man early morning Thursday, July 2 for allegedly driving 73 miles over the posted speed limit on Route 197.
At 1 a.m., Officer Christopher Giles arrested Julius Melton, 21, of Belfast and charged him with criminal speeding and driving to endanger after Melton allegedly traveled on Route 197 at 108 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. Melton was headed home to Belfast according to Giles.
“He had absolutely no regard for the public’s safety or his passenger’s safety,” Giles said.
Melton posted bail and was released. He is due in court Sept. 15.
