Garnett to stick with T-Wolves

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Only two players in NBA history have made it to season No. 21 in their careers. Kevin Garnett is about to become the third.

Garnett agreed to terms on a two-year deal to return to the Minnesota Timberwolves, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced.

Garnett spent his first 12 seasons in Minnesota before being traded to Boston in 2007. He won a championship and played in another NBA Finals with the Celtics before moving on to Brooklyn.

The Timberwolves acquired him in a February trade that sent Thaddeus Young to the Nets, and the franchise icon was given a thundering welcome by the adoring home crowd upon his return. But Garnett only played five games for the Wolves after the trade, sitting out with knee problems as Minnesota sank to the bottom of the league.

A-Rod ”˜disappointed’ by ASG snub

NEW YORK (AP) — Alex Rodriguez says he is “obviously disappointed” to be left off the American League All-Star team, but considered himself “a long shot” to get selected.

The New York Yankees’ designated hitter says he’s happy just to be in the conversation, and hopes the four days off over the All-Star break will benefit him.

Rodriguez, who turns 40 on July 27, entered Tuesday batting .284 with 16 homers and 47 RBIs after sitting out last season while serving a drug suspension. Seattle slugger Nelson Cruz was elected by fans to start at DH for the AL, and players voted in Texas designated hitter Prince Fielder as a reserve.

Rodriguez says he’s happy for Fielder because he’s also a big comeback story and is having a “phenomenal” year.

Asked if he thought the players’ vote might indicate all is not forgiven by his peers, A-Rod answered: “I wouldn’t say all that.”

Wladimir Klitschko to fight Fury in Oct.

LONDON (AP) — Promoters say unbeaten British boxer Tyson Fury will challenge Wladimir Klitschko for his world heavyweight titles in a bout in Germany in October.

The 39-year-old Klitschko is the WBA, IBF and WBO champion and the encounter will be a record 28th heavyweight title bout for him.

Fury’s promoters, Hennessy Sports, said the fight would take place in Duesseldorf on Oct. 24.

The 26-year-old Briton is undefeated in 24 fights after defending his European title against Christian Hammer in London in March.

He is the mandatory challenger to Ukrainian boxer Klitschko, who has not lost a match in 11 years.

Klitschko last fought in April, defeating Bryant Jennings over 12 rounds at Madison Square Garden in New York.

“Done deal… we reached an agreement with the Fury camp,” Klitschko wrote on his official Twitter account. “Looking forward to the fight on Oct. 24.”
