The Democrats, especially those in Portland, are all fired up with rank choice voting. As they say, they want the winning candidate to have a clear majority. Where were these same Democrats when 38-percent-populist-vote-John Baldacci was governor? They were happy to have a governor who didn’t have a majority then. I am sure that if Mike Michaud had won the election for governor we would not be hearing anything about rank choice voting.
Rank choice voting is a means for the Democrats to stuff the ballot box in their favor. Remember John Martin stayed speaker of the house as long as he did due to a little ballot box stuffing. So Democrats are not against ballot box stuffing as long as they win the election by doing so.
We have to look no further than the city of Portland to see the results of rank choice voting. Mayor Mike Brennan represents the very best candidate that rank choice voting could produce. If he is the very best rank choice voting can produce, it is a very sorry system for electing officials and the voters of Maine should reject it.
