ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Erasmo Ramirez pitched six innings of four-hit ball to get his sixth win in seven starts, Brandon Guyer homered, and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Houston Astros 3-1 Friday night.
Ramirez (8-3) gave up a solo homer to Colby Rasmus, his 11th, in the second inning and struck out five. It was Ramirez’s eighth straight start giving up two runs or fewer.
Houston starter Collin McHugh (9-5) retired 13 straight batters before Rene Rivera opened the sixth with a single and John Jaso followed with a double. David DeJesus and Evan Longoria had run-scoring grounders to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.
Guyer homered with two outs in the seventh to cap the scoring. It was his third homer of the season and first since May 8.
The Rays snapped a four-game losing streak and won for just the second time in 13 games.
INDIANS 5, ATHLETICS 1: Danny Salazar scattered five hits while allowing an unearned run in 82/3 innings and host Cleveland used a four-run sixth inning to beat Oakland.
Salazar (8-4), who came within one out of his second career complete game, struck out eight.
The right-hander retired the first two hitters in the ninth before Ben Zobrist doubled and Billy Butler was hit by a pitch. Cody Allen then got Ike Davis to foul out for his 19th save and third in three nights.
TWINS 8, TIGERS 6: Brian Dozier hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to cap a seven-run rally as Minnesota stunned visiting Detroit.
After missing out on an All-Star nomination earlier in the day, Dozier had two hits and four RBI, and hit his second game-winning homer of the week.
Dozier homered off Detroit closer Joakim Soria (3-1), who blew his third save in 23 chances.
The Twins scored seven times in the ninth off Soria and Bruce Rondon after being limited to one run by Justin Verlander, who went 72/3 innings.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
REDS 1, MARLINS 0: Mike Leake allowed three hits and struck out 10 in eight innings, and Jay Bruce homered in the second inning to help Cincinnati win at Miami.
PIRATES 5, CARDINALS 2: Gerrit Cole pitched seven strong innings to become the major leagues’ first 13-game winner and Neil Walker had a two-run homer among his three hits as Pittsburgh won at home.
Cole (13-3) allowed two runs – both on Matt Carpenter’s third-inning home run – and six hits while striking out three and walking two.
METS 4, DIAMONDBACKS 2: Noah Syndergaard struck out a career-high 13 in eight innings, and host New York got consecutive homers from slumping sluggers Lucas Duda and Michael Cuddyer to beat Arizona.
ROCKIES 5, BRAVES 3: Daniel Descalso had a run-scoring triple and Nolan Arenado and D.J. LeMahieu added RBI doubles for the host Rockies, who have won their last four games against the Braves, their longest streak ever against Atlanta.
INTERLEAGUE
WHITE SOX 1, CUBS 0: Pinch-hitter B.J. Shuck drove in Emilio Bonifacio with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, and the White Sox beat the Cubs at Wrigley Field, their eighth win in 10 games.
ORIOLES 3, NATIONALS 2: Jonathan Schoop hit a game-winning solo homer with two outs in the ninth inning as Baltimore rallied at home.
RANGERS 4, PADRES 3: Prince Fielder and Adrian Beltre hit back-to-back home runs, and Texas won at home, snapping a five-game skid.
