BOSTON — Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney has announced the signing of defenseman Jakub Zboril to an entrylevel contract.

Zboril, 18, is a native of Brno, Czech Republic, and played last season in Saint John of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He finished third among league rookie defensemen in scoring with 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points and 73 penalty minutes in 44 games. His 13 goals established the club record for goals by a rookie defenseman (previously five).

He was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team at the end of the season.

The 6-01, 184-pound blueliner is a left shot who played the 2013-14 season with his hometown HC Kometa Brno junior team, where he had 21 points and 57 penalty minutes in 36 games. He has twice represented the Czech Republic in international play, winning silver medals at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and the 2014 U-18 World Junior Championship.

The Bruins selected Zboril in the first round (13th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
