MANCHESTER, N.H. — Another day, another all-star player lost for the Portland Sea Dogs.

Infielder Jantzen Witte walked into the visiting clubhouse in Manchester on Friday with a cast on. He is likely done for the season with a broken left wrist.

Witte, 25, who played in Wednesday’s Eastern League All-Star Game at Hadlock Field, was hit by a pitch Thursday night in a game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

“Just a fastball inside,” Witte said.

Witte, a corner infielder, will go on the disabled list. On Thursday, the Sea Dogs lost all-star shortstop Marco Hernandez, who was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Witte was hit by the pitch in the first inning. He still went out to play the field.

“I went to third, but I didn’t feel great,” Witte said. “When I came back to the dugout, I picked up a bat and I couldn’t really grip it.”

Witte had X-rays taken Friday, and then the cast put on.

“The doctor said it will stay on six weeks,” he said.

There are only seven weeks left in the season. Witte has been one of the team’s leading hitters with a .283 average/.777 OPS and 25 doubles.
