PARSONSFIELD — It’s an unusual sight, but just before 8 a.m. on Saturday, the pilot of a Piper Cherokee landed his aircraft near the second hole at Province Lake Golf Club.
York County Sheriff Bill King said torrential rain and fog made for poor visibility and dangerous flying conditions so Gary Soucy, 66, of Brewer, made an emergency landing on the Parsonsfield golf course.
Soucy was alone in the aircraft. He was not injured and King said there was no apparent damage to the aircraft.
Soucy had left from the Waterville airport in the 1966 Piper Cherokee earlier Saturday and was on his way to an aircraft enthusiast event in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
The Federal Aviation Administration was notified and were on scene to inspect the aircraft prior to its removal.
The golf course remained open.
Deputy Darren Cyr said Soucy’s skill as a pilot resulted in the safe landing.
