Blake Swihart won’t be catching games for the Portland Sea Dogs this week. The Boston Red Sox activated him from the disabled list Monday and he was in Anaheim, California, in time to catch the second game of their doubleheader against the Los Angeles Angels.

Swihart, 23, was rehabilitating a sprained left foot with the Sea Dogs, playing two games in New Hampshire over the weekend. He was held out of Sunday’s game, but told the Portland Press Herald that he was likely to be with the Sea Dogs during their three-game series against Trenton, starting Monday evening at Hadlock Field.

Swihart is hitting .241 with one home run with the Red Sox. He was placed on the disabled list July 3.

To make room for Swihart, the Red Sox designated catcher Sandy Leon for assignment. Leon, 26, played in 33 games for Boston after being acquired from the Washington Nationals on March 30. He batted just .180.
