BANGOR — A Bangor man police allege was drunk when he crashed his car, resulting in the death of a passenger, has been held on $20,000 cash bail on a manslaughter charge.

Police say 23-year-old Keith Austin was behind the wheel of a car that crashed and flipped over in Hermon on June 18.

A passenger, 20-year-old Nick Frenette, died the next day of injuries suffered in the crash. Another passenger survived.

Austin did not enter a plea during his first court appearance on Monday because he has not yet been indicted.

Investigators say Austin was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana at the time.

Austin turned himself in on Friday.
