A traffic stop in Saco on Monday led to the seizure of $13,500 worth of heroin and ecstasy, police said.
Officer Christopher McGoon pulled over a 2007 Chevrolet Impala on Main Street at 10 p.m. after the driver, Megan Maietta, 31, of Biddeford, allegedly ran a red light, police said in a release.
Her passenger, Joseph Eugene Clark, 31, of Biddeford, said he had no identification and claimed he was from Georgia, according to the news release. The officer said Clark gave a different middle name that did not appear in driver’s license databases from either state, the release stated. Clark’s real name did show that he had three outstanding arrest warrants.
McGoon told Clark he was detaining him until his identity could be confirmed. A search of Clark turned up 98 grams of heroin and 25 grams of ecstasy, police said. Clark admitted his real identity and police found a scale and hypodermic needles in the car.
Police charged Clark with aggravated drug trafficking, a class A felony, and unlawful drug trafficking as well as failure to provide a correct name and address, police said.
Clark is scheduled to appear in York County Superior Court on Aug. 21.
Maietta was issued a summons to appear in court to face charges of failing to stop at a red light and failure to provide proof of insurance.
