Topsham — The planning board will hold a public hearing tonight on the proposed extension of a new access road that would allow trucks access to Grimmel Industries at 80 Pejepscot Village Main St. from Route 196, instead of hauling past Pejepscot Village residents.
Residents living in the historic Pejepscot Village off River Road have long complained about the noise and hours of the trucks hauling scrap metal materials to the metal recycling company, as well as debris in the road they say has damaged residents’ vehicle tires.
The access road proposed by Pejepscot Industrial Park Inc., would extend from a new road already under construction next to Coastal Metal Fab to Grimmel’s facility, creating a direct and primary access driveway from Route 196.
Town Planner Rod Melanson said Grimmel would then stop using Pejepscot Village Main Street. Grimmel has obtained full approvals through the Department of Environmental Protection including a site location of development permit, and received approvals from the Maine Department of Transportation for the road to cross the railroad tracks.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.
