BIDDEFORD — Doris P. Faucher, 81, of Biddeford died Thursday evening at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford after a brief illness.
She was born in Biddeford on April 27, 1934, the daughter of Omer and Alice DesRoberts Provencher. She was educated in Biddeford schools, graduating from Biddeford High School with the class of 1952. She graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a bachelor’s degree in Education in 1956 and later received a master’s degree in Education from the University of Maine at Gorham. She became a Certified Medical Technologist and was a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
On November 24, 1956 she married Norman R. Faucher in St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. She and her husband moved to Poitiers, France, where he was stationed in the military.
Mrs. Faucher worked as a teacher at Biddeford Regional Vocational School, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Franco-American Writers & Composers Association, and a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority at the University of Maine at Orono, a member of the Franco-American Genealogy Society in Biddeford and the American Canadian Genealogy Society in Manchester, New Hampshire.
She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After retirement, she traveled with her husband on annual vacations to Barbados and Hawaii. Her hobbies included playing tennis, oil painting, taking walks and working in genealogy. With her husband being stationed in France for military service, she became very interested in her genealogical history, which lead her to writing a series of historical novels entitled “Le Quebecois.” She became nationally recognized for the series, having sold books in all 50 states.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Norman R. Faucher of Biddeford, two sons, Marc R. Faucher and his wife Peggy of Vermont and William P. Faucher and his wife Catherine of Falmouth, two daughters, Diane R. Beaudoin and her husband Guy of Biddeford and Susan J. Gagne and her husband Russell of Biddeford, five grandchildren, Jeffrey Beaudoin, Kristen Burke, Christopher Gagne, Nicholas Gagne and Megan Faucher, two great-grandchildren, Avie Beaudoin and Lincoln Beaudoin, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Monday, Aug. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
