SANFORD — An electrical storm on Monday night took out a city government central computer server, but City Manager Steve Buck said he hoped all city services would be back to full operations by mid-morning today.
Some services available through the City Clerk’s Office were sidelined Tuesday. Buck told the City Council that workers were able to perform most functions, with the exception of motor vehicle registrations, which they planned to do manually today.
He said a secondary tape drive of all data is available should the information stored on the server not be able to be recovered.
The city’s Information Systems Disaster Recovery Team was to secure temporary operational status, reaffirm recovery operations and mitigate impacts on operations today, he said. Once the system is returned to normal, the team will make recommendations to prevent a reoccurrence.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
