OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach Surge (18-21) defeated the Newburgh Newts (22-16) in comeback fashion during Tuesday night’s regular season finale with a final score of 6-5.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Newts took a 2-0 lead, including a solo home run for Maine native Nick Grady.

Jairo Gomez would take over the mound for the Surge, ending the night for Surge starter Skip Flanagan. Flanagan, making his first professional appearance on the mound, ended the night with five hits, two runs, one walk and five strikeouts.

Chris Williams would take over for Gomez in the sixth. Gomez recorded two walks and one strikeout.

The Newts would take a 5-0 lead in the sixth inning, with the Newts scoring all three runs on passed balls and errors.

The Surge would pick up a run in the bottom of the sixth, with a run crossing the plate after a balk.

Junior Estrella would take over the mound for the Surge in the eighth. Williams ended the night allowing one hit, three runs (all unearned), one walk and one strikeout.

The Surge would complete their rally in the eighth inning. Bryan White picked up an RBI single, with a second run scoring on an error, making it 5-3 in favor of the Newts. The Surge would score another run on a balk, making it 5-4. John Ascenzia would tie it with a sac hit.

Newcomer Rick Moses would end up scoring the winning run in the eighth. He reached on a walk and then stole second, reaching home on an RBI single from Tyler Krobetzky.

Dustin Stanton would come in to close out the game in the ninth. Estrella allowed no hits and struck out two. Stanton also ended the night allowing no hits and striking out two.

The Surge and Newts each recorded six hits. Tyler Krobetzky led the Surge with two.
