The York County Sheriff’s Office has activated a transport vehicle to cruise coastal communities during summer weekends to transport arrestees to York County Jail. Sheriff Bill King said he instituted the jail transport to help local police departments. It often takes several hours to transport a prisoner from one of the coastal towns to the jail in Alfred, he said, taking the officer away from their jurisdiction. King said correction officers staff the transport van, although Deputy Wilfred Vachon was filling in one evening when this photo was taken in York with York Officer Jordan Floyd and Corrections officer Keith Merrifield.
