PHIPPSBURG — Howard Conant Larrabee Jr., 69, died Aug. 5 at his daughter’s home in Phippsburg, Maine. Howard was born in Lewiston, Maine and raised by his devoted and loving mother Florence “Tish” Stewart Larrabee. They lived in Bath, Maine and Howard attended Bath schools and graduated from Morse High School in 1965. Howard was an avid sports car fan and could be found tinkering with engines in attempt to increase performance. His love of cars and driving took him all over the country including Alaska, the Yukon Territory, Prince Edward Island, and coastal New England. He fulfilled his dream of visiting and exploring his ancestry in Ireland in 2013. One of his favorite pastimes was trying new restaurants and “going for a ride.” His infectious laugh and charismatic spirit captivated many. Howard made friends everywhere he went with his ability to engage complete strangers in conversation. He was adored at his places of employment, most recently the Senior Health Center in Brunswick, Maine where he cooked for over 10 years. He is most famous for his amazing grilled rib eye steak he served for decades at the old Montsweag Restaurant in Woolwich, Maine. Together with Faye (Orr) Larrabee they raised three children: Bobbi-Jo Colby, Julie Gerow, and Neal Larrabee. They made their family home in Woolwich for over 20 years. Howard most recently lived in Brunswick prior to his illness. Once diagnosed with cancer he was cared for by his daughter Julie and her family in Phippsburg for the past seven months.

A special thank you to the following health care professionals: Dr. James Rines and Tina, Dr. Matthew Carroll, Ben Tipton PA-C, Teresa Sirois FNP, Dr. David Benton, and the Phippsburg Ambulance Service.

Howard will be put to rest next to his beloved mother at Riverside Cemetery in Woolwich on August 16th at one o’clock in the afternoon. A celebration of life will follow the service. For further information please contact Julie, (207) 208-0331.
