PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tim Tebow got a warm Philly welcome.

Tebow threw for 69 yards and ran for a touchdown in his first game in two years, Kenjon Barner returned a punt 92 yards for a touchdown and ran for a score and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Indianapolis Colts 36-10 Sunday.

Tebow got a standing ovation when he entered midway through the third quarter and the crowd roared so loud when his name was introduced he had to quiet them down because he was taking the snap in a shotgun.

He dove into the pylon on a 7-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter and finished with 15 yards rushing on four carries. He completed 6 of 12 passes and was sacked twice.

Tebow hadn’t played since the 2013 preseason with New England until the Eagles (1-0) signed him to compete with Matt Barkley for the No. 3 spot behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez. Barkley was 12 of 20 for 192 yards and one interception.

Jets

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets flagged Geno Smith for a false start.

Smith was photographed by the New York Post playing catch with a friend outside his New Jersey apartment Saturday, two days after the quarterback had jaw surgery. Smith had plates and screws inserted into the jaw, which was broken by a punch from thenteammate Ikemefuna Enemkpali on Tuesday.

The newspaper published a front-page image of Smith, his face swollen with black bandages on each cheek.

“He shouldn’t be doing it right now,” coach Todd Bowles said Sunday. “We handled that internally. We had that discussion.”

Bowles also added that the matter “wasn’t that big of a deal.”

Smith is expected to be sidelined 6-10 weeks after being slugged by Enemkpali, who was released shortly after the incident and claimed on waivers by Buffalo.

Smith was released from the hospital Friday, and met with the Jets’ doctors and trainers at the team’s facility on Sunday.

“He just got surgery, so you don’t want him getting infected,” Bowles said. “They said he couldn’t do anything physical, so I’m going by the rules of what they said.”

The team announced that Smith is not yet ready to be at the facility on a full-time basis attending meetings and watching practice.

“That’s up to the doctors,” Bowles said. “Hopefully, soon.”

The Post spoke briefly to Smith, who said he felt “great” and had a message for Jets fans: “Get ready for me to come back.”

Bears

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears closed training camp with a handful of skirmishes and players trying to compensate for the loss of key receivers Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White.

Jeffery has a calf strain suffered Wednesday and missed the first preseason game. He remains day to day and is unlikely to participate when the team goes to Indianapolis for practices against the Colts prior to Saturday’s game.

Coach John Fox announced White will have surgery within a week for a stress fracture in his left shin. The team had announced Saturday that White could miss the remainder of the season, or a large portion of it.

The Bears also announced third-string quarterback David Fales has been taken off the physically unable to perform list after an undisclosed illness kept him sidelined through all but one day of camp.

At Sunday’s final practice, one of three shoving matches included defensive tackle Jeremiah Ratliff scuffling with center Will Montgomery.

Bills

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan says defensive tackle Jarius Wynn could be lost for the season after a serious ACL injury.

Ryan called the injury “devastating” to both the Bills and Wynn, and said that Wynn will miss the season if an ACL tear is confirmed.

Wynn was injured in Friday’s preseason opener against Carolina. He played 11 games for the Bills last season, picking up two sacks and 17 tackles.

Wynn was entering his eighth season. He has 10 1/2 sacks between Buffalo, Green Bay, Dallas, San Diego and Tennessee.

Ryan also said running back Bryce Brown has a minor hamstring injury and may not play in Thursday’s preseason game against Cleveland, though wide receiver Percy Harvin should debut for the Bills.

Buffalo also added kicker Dan Carpenter to the active roster, moving him off the active/non-football injury list.
