I just finished reading an article in Monday’s Portland Press Herald that absolutely amazed and astounded me! It was about Conrad LeBourdais and his memories of World War II. His story, like so many of that generation is fascinating and also sad, since this generation who gave up so much for us is dwindling daily. At the end of the article he talks about the fact that when the Air Show comes to Brunswick in September, WW II veterans will no longer be admitted free of charge. I find this to be totally unbelievable and unacceptable! In my opinion any veteran that has served in any war should automatically be allowed to enjoy this event free! What a disservice we are showing the many men and women who fought for us and those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy the many freedoms we have. I support Mr. LeBourdais and his letter to The Times Record urging all WW II veterans to boycott this event and I want to say “thank you” to the “Greatest Generation” and all the veterans after them who have made it easier for me to feel safe and secure in my lifetime.
