Police responded to a call at the intersection of the train tracks and Union Avenue around 1:30 a.m., March 26, Old Orchard Beach Lt. Timothy Deluca said in a news release issued at the time. They found the passenger train had collided with the rear of an SUV. In addition to Connolly, there were two passengers in the vehicle. One of them – the passenger in the rear seat, was thrown from the car, seriously injured and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Deluca. He said the vehicle sustained extensive damage.
