SACO — Nicholas K. Hadiaris, 99, of Saco, fell asleep in the Lord on Friday Aug. 21, 2015 at his home with his sons, Charles and Chris by his side. Nick joins his wife of 70 years, Madeline, who fell asleep in the Lord on Feb. 6, 2011.

Greece, the oldest child of Kostas and Kyrani (Chirigotis) Hadiaris. Infant Nicholas and Kyrani traveled to the United States to join Kostas in Saco.

Kostas operated the barbershop in Biddeford, where Nick was a barber for many years. He graduated from Thornton Academy with the Class of 1936.

Nick worked in the Saco-Lowell shops and Saco Defense Systems (Maremont Corp). He was a skilled craftsman and, as a toolmaker during World War II, his job was necessary to supply guns for the war effort. He retired from the shop in 1980 to work with his brother Fotis as the setup team at the Saco Dairy Queen until he retired again at age 98 after the 2013 DQ season.

Nick was a loving husband and father to the twins, Charles and Chris. He enjoyed hunting deer and birds Down East in his early years. Later he most enjoyed his grandchildren and recently attended the baptism of his great grandchild. He also loved the family poodles, a good pipe, Louis L’Amour novels, and the ever-present bowl of ice cream while watching the Patriots and Red Sox.

Nick was a Steward of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, and member of the AHEPA, the Society of Lacones, and the Biddeford-Saco Elks Lodge #1597.

Nick is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Madeline; his daughter, Angela; brothers, John, Alexander, and Fotis; and his sister, Anastasia.

He is survived by: his son, Charles and wife Elaine; son, Chris and wife Bonny; grandson, Nicholas and wife Kelly; granddaughter, Stephanie and husband Samuel; grandson, Jonathan and wife Jordan; great-grandson, Noah; as well as Alice Collette, his remaining sibling.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, Aug. 27 from 3- 6 p.m. with the Trisagion Prayer Service at 5 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saco. Burial will follow in St. Demetrios Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
