OLD ORCHARD BEACH — This Saturday it will be “Raining Men” at Mr. Goodbar.

The event, which runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the 6 East Grand Ave. venue, is a fundraiser for Community Animal Watch, a town committee which runs a pet food pantry and refers pet owners to low-cost spaying and neutering.

Up for bid that evening will be dinner with one of the contestants, said event organizer Jeanne Lachance, owner of JJ’s Eatery Too. Contestants, men in the 21 to 32-ish range, she said, need to raise $100 to participate in the event.

“It will be an open bid situation,” said Lachance. The guys will go on stage, tell the audience their name, age, hobbies and interests. Lachance said she expects “a good dozen” participants.

Women attending the event don’t have to pay, but donations will be accepted.

Lachance organizes fundraisers annually for local charities.

“I just thought it would be a fun thing, something different,” said Lachance. She said she plans to organize similar events for different age brackets in the future.

For those not looking for a dinner date, there will also be cats up for adoption. Beverly Russell, Community Animal Watch volunteer, said there will be orphaned barn kittens available for adoption, and the adoption fee will include the cost of spaying or neutering and shots.
