Sophia Douglass Pfeiffer, 96, St. Paul, MN, and formerly of Brunswick, ME, died on July 4, 2015. Sophia was born on Aug. 10, 1918, in New York City to Franklin and Sophie Wells.

She graduated from Vassar College in 1939 and Northeastern School of Law in 1975. Sophia was married to Timothy Adams Pfeiffer in 1941.

Sophia held editorial positions with The Turkish Journal of Pediatrics and The National Geographic. Upon graduation from law school, Sophia became chief staff attorney at the RI Supreme Court. Following retirement from the RI Supreme Court in 1986, Sophia moved to Brunswick, Maine, where she served on the Village Review Board and the Sewer Board. Sophia was elected to two terms (1990-94) of the Maine House of Representatives. In 2007, Sophia moved to St. Paul, MN, to be near her youngest daughter. Sophia continued to spend time at the family summer cottage in Down East Maine through the summer of 2014.

Sophia is survived by son Timothy F. Pfeiffer (Jane) of Tucson, AZ, and daughters Penelope Keenan (Pete Sang) of Chapel Hill, NC, and Sophie Pfeiffer (Chris Enstad) of Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Predeceased by husband Timothy Adams Pfeiffer.

A memorial service was held in Minneapolis.
