BANGOR ( AP) — An Augusta arena worker has filed a workplace discrimination lawsuit against the city.
The Kennebec Journal reports an attorney for Carol Godbout, of Augusta, filed the complaint in U.S. District Court in Bangor. She is seeking a permanent injunction preventing retaliation against her and an unspecified amount of damages.
Godbout was hired as a cook at the Augusta Civic Center in 2002.
The complaint states she spoke repeatedly to supervisors about offensive comments made to her by a coworker who was “obsessed with her sexual orientation.” She says management treated the male workers better than they treated her.
Officials say she is currently on a medical leave of absence. They expect the city to file a response through its insurance carrier.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
