BIDDEFORD — Elaine (Sullivan) Morgan of Dayton died peacefully at Southern Maine Medical Center on Aug. 27 after a brief illness.

Born in Portland in 1943, Elaine was one of seven children born to James and Eleanor Sullivan. A graduate of Old Orchard Beach High School, she worked as a nurse at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Saco for 23 years. She previously spent her time as a caregiver to her beloved husband, Warren Morgan, who died of Parkinson’s Disease in 1987.

Elaine is survived by her only son, John Heffernan, with whom she shared a deep bond. Elaine also enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren, Courtney, Zachary, and Colby Heffernan. She was extremely proud of her grandkids and their individual accomplishments.

In addition to her son and grandchildren, she is survived by: her daughterin law, Susan Heffernan; sisters, Marion Ahearn and her husband Rick Ahearn of Dayton; Shirley Thayer of Old Orchard Beach; Sandra Bergeron and her husband Paul Bergeron of Biddeford; and Stephen Sullivan of Old Orchard Beach. Elaine was also adored by many nieces and nephews, especially Jodie and Morgan Ahearn of Dayton.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, Warren Morgan; her parents, James and Eleanor Sullivan; and brothers, Thomas and James Sullivan Jr.

A devoutly religious woman, her family is comforted knowing she is with those she loved who passed before her.

Funeral arrangements are being made by Cote’s Funeral Home in Saco. There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 at Greenwood Cemetery in Biddeford. A celebration of her life will follow her service at the Kerrymen Pub in Saco.

Elaine often contributed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a charity that was near to her heart. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to St. Jude’s in her memory at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
