YARMOUTH — Kathleen Winters Buffum, 92, of Yarmouth, died Aug. 23.

Buffum was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Ottawa, Canada, but soon moved with her family to Yarmouth. She graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1941, and went on to attend Shaw Business College in Portland.

Kathleen worked as a secretary and administrative assistant, initially at Congdon Transport, where she met her future husband, William Arthur Buffum. Later, she was employed until her retirement by APA Transport. She was known for working quickly and efficiently.

Buffum was a dog-lover, and over the years raised shepherds, spaniels and shelties. However, her passion was for Pembroke Welsh corgis, which she bred and showed throughout New England. She was a member of the Vacationland Dog Club, and taught herself desktop publishing so that she could help publish the club newsletter. She also loved roses, and was a member of the Maine Rose Society.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1953 and by her son, Bruce Albert Buffum, in 1997.

She is survived by her son, William A. Buffum, of Greenville; her daughter-in-law, Mona Buffum, of Walpole; her grandsons, John Neilson and Gregory Buffum, both of Portland; and her granddaughter, Victoria Farnsworth, of Beverly, Massachusetts.

Visitation and a funeral were held Aug. 26 at Lindquist Funeral Home, in Yarmouth. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery.

Donations in Buffum’s memory may be made to the Animal Refuge League, P.O. Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04098.
