BIDDEFORD — Roger R. Descoteaux, 66, of Biddeford, died Monday morning, Aug. 31, 2015, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Biddeford on Oct. 7, 1948, the son of Armand and Marie A. Rancourt Descoteaux. He was educated in local schools, graduated from the former St. Louis High School, Class of 1967, and attended the University of Southern Maine. On Jan. 17, 1970, he married Joanne P. Letourneau in St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.

Mr. Descoteaux served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged, he worked nine years with Saco Defense and 34 years with Pratt and Whitney in North Berwick, retiring in 2012.

Roger was a fourth degree member of the Old Orchard Beach Knights of Columbus and a life member of the St. Louis Alumni Association. He enjoyed local and professional sports, particularly the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He loved wintering in Florida, taking long walks on the beach and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by: his wife of 45 years, of Biddeford; three sons, Fr. Lee R. Descoteaux of Long Island, New York, Scott R. Descoteaux and his wife Linda of Biddeford, and Shawn E. Descoteaux and his wife Celeste of Biddeford; his mother, of Biddeford; five grandchildren, Austin Gagne, Alec Descoteaux, Ariana Descoteaux, Jack Descoteaux, and Benjamin Descoteaux; and one niece and one nephew.

Visiting hours will be 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel.
