Sadia Crosby selected to 2014 All-American rugby team
BATH — Former Morse High School student/athlete Sadia Crosby, a 2013 graduate, recently competed in the Can-Am Series against Canada in women’s rugby. A student at Roger Williams University, Crosby helped the team from the U.S. to a 38-22 win in the opener, followed by a 32-5 rout in the second. Both games were played at Central Washington University. Crosby was selected to the 2015 All-American Women’s Rugby team.
Libby assist lifts MMA to soccer victory
CASTINE — Susana DeFrank scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Maine Maritime Academy women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over Gordon College on Tuesday night in season-opening action. The first meeting between the teams ended when former Brunswick High School standout Morgan Libby’s shot was stopped by the Gordon goaltender. The rebound came to DeFrank, who headed the ball into the vacated goal for the victory. The Mariners (1-0) return to action on Sunday at home against Maine-Fort Kent at 2 p.m.
Trimble scores in first collegiate game as UNE rolls
BIDDEFORD — The University of New England women’s soccer team received goals from five different players — including four in the second half — on its way to a 5-1 non-conference win over Saint Joseph’s College in a mutual opener played Tuesday evening at Barbara J. Hazard Field. Leading 1-0 at the half, the Nor’easters (1-0) doubled its lead on a goal by Jackie Dickerson. UNE put the game away with three goals over an 11:25 span, including the final goal off the foot of debuting freshman Miracle Trimble of West Bath. Hannah LeBlanc scored the lone goal for the Monks in the final minute. UNE returns to action on Saturday at Husson College against Newbury. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
Brunswick JV field hockey falls to Mt. Blue
BRUNSWICK — Jordan Van Savage made 17 stops, but the Brunswick High School jayvee field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to Mt. Blue on Wednesday. Rosie White and Ainsley Harrower played well on defense and offense for the Dragons, who host Mt. Ararat today. “With a lack of numbers we are going to be playing 7 on 7 this season,” said Brunswick coach Amanda Shorey. ”The girls have come ready to work and have improved their stick skills in the short two weeks of preseason. This team has a lot of heart and determination, and I can’t wait to see what they do over the season. ”
