From the Journal Tribune: “The widow of a Somerville, Mass. man wbo committed suicide at the York County Jail in 2003 has filed a civil suit against York County, Sheriff Philip Cote, two corrections officers and a nurse working for the jail’s medical services provider, alleging wrongful death. Barbara Aylward claims the county, sheriff, corrections staff and others breached their duties of reasonable care by failing to provide Michael John Aylward with medical attention, specifically heroin detoxification services.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Biddeford police are investigating the theft of a goat belonging to Edward Gilbert of 14 Piersons Lane, Biddeford. The animal was taken sometime last night from its owner who left the goat chained at the city dump off Main Street. The owner is a caretaker at the city facility.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “After having been closed since the first of August, enjoying its usual vacation, and having been without an established pastor since last April, at which time the Rev. John M. Wathen resigned its pastorate to take up duties elsewhere, the Second Congregational church of this city will reopen its doors for worship tomorrow under the leadership of Rev. W. Stanley Post of New York, the newly elected Pastor.”
