“Light in the Darkness,” pledge drive for The Presence Radio Network, Maine’s only Catholic radio network, will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 12. Featured are appearances by more than 15 local priests and live Masses each morning. Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate a live, on-air Mass at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The network (106.7 FM in Greater Portland and Lewiston/Auburn, 90.3 FM in Greater Bangor, 89.7 FM in Bath/Brunswick and 89.5 FM in Augusta) is a nonprofit lay apostolate that relies on pledges for crucial funding. Sept. 12

100th Anniversary Mass, 4 p.m., celebrated by Bishop Robert P. Deeley at St. Louis Parish, 279 Danforth St., Portland. The parish was founded in 1915 and the current church was built in 1924 by Polish immigrants. It is the only Polish parish in Maine. A reception will follow the Mass at the Italian Heritage Center, 40 Westland Ave., Portland, and will feature Polish food, live music and dancing. Tickets to the reception are $40 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under. Tickets will be available after Masses in the St. Louis parish hall and during the week at the Pastoral Center, 307 Congress St., and at portland catholic.org/centennial.

Thew Elliott has been named music director at Trinity Church, 580 Forest Ave., Portland. He begins his new post with the 10 a.m. service Sept. 20. He recently moved to Portland from Washington, D.C., where he was artist in residence and later director of music for Dumbarton UMC. He was also a music instructor at the Edmund Burke School.

Beth Israel Congregation, a Jewish community serving the midcoast, has announced that it has developed a strategic plan for the future as an inclusive synagogue of mutual respect and shared responsibility.
