BIDDEFORD — Bowdoin scored a pair of goals early in the match and put the game away with five second-half tallies on its way to a season opening 7-0 victory over the University of New England in a non-conference match Tuesday at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The Polar Bears got the only offense they needed just 4:04 into the contest when Connor Keefe converted a header off a cross from Scarborough native Andrew Jones.

Bowdoin doubled its lead in the 18th minute as Jones deposited a high left-footed shot from the top of the box just under the crossbar. The visitors carried that 2-0 advantage into halftime

The Polar Bears exploded for five goals in the second frame. Moctar Niang, Jones, Cedric Charlier, Riley Bubb and Nick DiStefano did the damage.

UNE (1-2) received four saves from Elijah Leverett.
