According to the US Dept of Labor, the number of open jobs has reached a record 5.8 million, the highest in 15 years (as long as they have kept records). We no longer have an unemployment problem. We obviously have a skills mismatch. A review of the numbers shows the greatest job opening growth in professional fields. As many high tech CEO’s have indicated, being less restrictive about selective immigration should be a government priority.
In tandem, we need better training and apprenticeship tax incentives for companies. You cannot produce more and increase GDP with so many unfilled jobs. The Fed should begin raising interest rates, low rates have done their job.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
