From the Journal Tribune: “Today begins the first full week of the ‘pay per bag’ waste disposal system in (Lyman), which has some applauding the change and others circulating a petition to repeal it. … The new waste disposal system is a major change, as only town trash bags, at $1.75 each, will now be accepted at the transfer station.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “At the Brick Store Museum during August visitors to the art galleries were asked to cast a ballot for the painting or print in the 25th Annual Members’ Exhibition which they liked best. Receiving the greatest number of votes was was the oil, ‘Edge of Winter,’ painted by Lillian Black of Saco.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “The members of the Old Orchard fire department were tendered a complimentary supper at the Brunswick hotel, Old Orchard, Friday night, which proved to be one of the big times of the season. Proprietor John F. Hutchinson, for 10 years or more a member of the department, resigning last June on account of hotel duties, had promised the boys a feast when the right time came.”
