Goodall Memorial Library’s Adult and Young Adult Summer Reading Program concluded recently and the winner of the grand prize, consisting of a gift basket containing a coffee mug, travel cup, journal, and several gift cards donated by local merchants was Karen LaValley, a regular user of the library and Sanford native who now lives in Lebanon. She is shown here with Assistant Library Director Jean Collins. LaValley was inspired by this year’s theme, Read 4 Life Bingo, which encouraged reading outside “your comfort zone.”

Her grandmother’s favorite author was fiction writer Elizabeth Ogilvie, who writes about life on an island off the coast of Maine. And so this summer, LaValley tried one of her books, and re-discovered the beauty and impact of a well-written auto-biography, in this case Abigail Thomas’s new book, “What Comes Next and How to Like It: a memoir.” Another favorite that had a impact was “The Art of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo. Thanks to all patrons who took part, and special thanks to generous local sponsors, Moe’s Italian Sandwiches and Aroma Joe’s.
