TOPSHAM
Topsham Police last week found a dozen marijuana plants growing near Bradley Pond on conservation property for which the Brunswick Topsham Land Trust holds an easement.
Lt. Fred Dunn said the department received an anonymous tip Sept. 11 about the plants seen at the Bradley Pond Preserve. After searching the area for about 10 minutes, Dunn and officer Troy Garrison found the plants.
Dunn said police removed the plants and will have the plants destroyed. There are no charges pending as police don’t know who the plants belong to.
A statement on the Topsham Police Facebook page read: “It’s getting to be that time of the year where folks will be wandering into the woods to harvest their illegal plants. By statute, medical marijuana plants are required to be grown in side a locked, fenced area. There is no legal reason marijuana plans will be growing out in the woods, unsecured.”
Topsham police advise people if they discover marijuana plants growing out in the woods to call police or send an anonymous tip at sagcounty.com/departments/co mmunications/etip/.
