SACO — Stephen R.P. Rice of Saco (formerly of Elmhurst, New York) passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at home. He was 73 years old.

Born on April 8, 1942 in Manhattan, he was the son of Hugh and Helen (Callahan) Rice.

Raised in Queens, New York, Stephen graduated from Delahanty High School in Jamaica. While a college student at St. Francis College in Biddeford, he met his wife and life partner, Susan (Dupuis) Rice, at a Valentine’s Day dance. Stephen and Susan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 21.

After college, Stephen served his country as an electronics counter measures operator on the Boeing B52 Stratofortress in the United States Air Force from 1962- 1966. Following his service, he was employed by AT&T in New York and retired after 30 years.

 
 
An outdoors enthusiast, Stephen enjoyed fishing and shooting and was a life member of Scarborough Fish and Game Association.

Stephen is survived by: his wife, Susan (Dupuis) Rice; his daughter, Sarah Henris and her husband Jason; his son, Stephen P. Rice and his wife Lisa; and his four grandchildren, Jason, Sean, Sabrina, and Mackenzie.

Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 18 from 10 -11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco.

A graveside service and interment will be held on Monday, Sept. 21 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village, New York.
