Brunswick JV field hockey doubled up
BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School jayvee field hockey team battled hard in a 4-2 loss to talented Skowhegan on Thursday. Bailey Henrickx and Makayla Carver scored for the Dragons. Brunswick is slated to visit Brewer on Tuesday.
Morse takes 3-0 win over Belfast in girls JV soccer
BELFAST — The Morse High School girls jayvee soccer team rolled to a 3-0 win over Belfast on Thursday. The midfield for the Shipbuilders controlled play. Macie Gagne gave Morse a 1-0 lead off an assist from Sam Meyers. Alika McMurrin scored a nice goal with 13 minutes remaining in regulation, and Mikayla Rose cleaned up a rebound six minutes later to complete the scoring.
Camden holds off Dragons in jayvee soccer action
CAMDEN — Camden Hills forward Bryce Tyler scored his second goal with seven minutes remaining as the Windjammers slipped past the visiting Brunswick High School jayvee Black soccer team, 4-2, in boys action on Wednesday. Trailing 3-1, Jacob Doring brought the Dragons within a goal. With Brunswick pressing for the tying goal, Tyler put the game away for Camden. Brunswick trailed 2-1 at the half despite a goal from Kyle Hanson, with Doring picking up the assist. Cam Daly played well in net for the Dragons, turning aside six shots. Seamus McCarthy and Matt Yost also contributed with solid performances. Nathan Levig and Isaac Luce combined on four saves for Camden. Brunswick is 0-2-1 and is slated to host rival Mt. Ararat on Monday.
Brunswick 8th girls give Mt. Ararat the slip
BRUNSWICK — Sarah Scrapchensky, Lila Solberg and Grace Clendening each scored a goal as the Brunswick Junior High School eighth-grade girls soccer team picked up a 3-0 “Battle of the Bridge” win over Mt. Ararat on Thursday. The Eagles controlled the game early, but the strong Dragons defense held tough.
Dragons earn first frosh win
GARDINER — The Brunswick High School freshman football team picked up its first win, downing Gardiner, 24-18, on Thursday. Nate Girardin threw to Tyler Nadeau on Brunswick’s opening drive for a score, and Donny Bromiley’s score gave the Dragons a 16-6 halftime lead. The Brunswick defense held tough in the second half, and the offensive line led by Jacob Robinson controlled the ball on offense. Bromiley added his second touchdown to put the game away. Special teams were led by Doug Gary, who recovered a late onside kick. Brunswick is slated to host Edward Little this upcoming Thursday.
Sugg boys soccer plays to tie with Maranacook
READFIELD — The Sugg Middle School boys soccer team played Maranacook to a 1-1 tie in action on Thursday. The Greyhounds (1-0-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead when DJ Douglass floated a pass to the waiting head of Jack Tibbets. But, the Black Bears answered a mere 30 seconds later on a goal by Caleb Reid. Both teams had chances to score, with Sugg goaltender Levi Levesque denying all Maranacook chances. Sugg is slated to host Hall-Dale on Tuesday.
