Boyle, Moore among Huskies scoring runners

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. — The University of Southern Maine women’s cross country team raced to a 15th-place finish among the 42 teams competing Saturday at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Invitational. Brandeis University took the team title scoring 49 points. East Stroudsburg University was second with 79 points, edging Connecticut College by one point for the runner-up spot. Keene State College and Assumption College completed the top five with 103 and 238 points, respectively. The Huskies scored a total of 473 points. USM’s Jasmine Boyle of Brunswick finished 89th overall in a time of 20:18.16. Also, Huskies runner and former Morse High School runner Danica Moore finished 139th in 21:01.70. The Huskies are back in action this upcoming Saturday when they compete at the Bowdoin College Invitational.

Mt. Ararat freshmen tie Brunswick

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat High School freshmen boys soccer team is 1-2-1 on the season following its 2-2 draw with Brunswick on Monday. Ethan Rac netted the Eagles first goal off a pass from Riley Gilson, and Maximo Varela was the other Mt. Ararat goal scorer, putting it in unassisted. Jared Balser had two saves in net, while Mitchell Surace relieved him for five stops for the Eagles. Daniel Pratt, Thomas Davison, Jax Hollenbach, Tristan Burch, Nathan Kofroth and Jacob Brilliant also played well.

Brunswick JV Orange drops first

TOPSHAM — The Brunswick High School jayvee girls soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a close 3-2 decision to rival Mt. Ararat recently. Rae Bamberger and Elaine Kew scored for the Dragons. Emily Coffin played well.

Bowdoin’s Kennedy earns NESCAC top player award

BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College senior Rachel Kennedy has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Kennedy enjoyed a torrid week against three conference opponents, scoring a hat trick in three consecutive games as the Polar Bears outscored their foes, 16-0. Kennedy recorded three goals in wins against Bates (5-0), Wesleyan (5-0) and Williams (6-0) and continues to draw closer to several school marks. In 64 career games, Kennedy now has 80 goals and 16 assists for 176 points, ranking second only to Lindsay McNamara in career goals (92) and points (205) all-time at Bowdoin. Second-ranked Bowdoin will return to action Saturday at home against sixth-ranked Middlebury in a big NESCAC showdown on Ryan Field at noon.

Brunswick 7th girls soccer drops St. John’s

BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Junior High School girls soccer team earned a 4-0 win over St. John’s on Monday. Rayna Schinhofen had three goals for the Huskies, while Gwen Thom added a score. Grace Confer and Alex Bunker played stellar defense.
